Justin Welsh

 
 

Instrument: Baritone

Justin Welsh was recently a member of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio where he was featured in their production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini in the role of Fiorello and covered roles such as Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così Fan Tutte, and Rodrigue in Verdi’s Don Carlos. Outside of the ensemble, he was Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart in Sulmona, Italy, and Reverent Blitch Susannah  by Carlisle Floyd. Recently, he has performed in roles such as Dancaire in Bizet’s Carmen and Riccardo in  I Puritani, by Bellini.

Besides opera, Justin has participated in oratorios such as Handel's Messiah and St Matthew Passion by Bach. He graduated from the Master’s of Music program at the University of British Columbia.

Justin's awards include First Prize at the 2006 Lotte Lenya Competition, and honorable mentions at the Northwest Metropolitan Regional Finals and the Louis and Cristina Quilico Awards Besides signing Belcore from L'Elisir d'amore with Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, performances include the title role in Don Giovanni and oratorio performances with Regina and Winnipeg Symphonies.
